The Sert canvases. San Telmo museum

The Sert canvases by Spanish artist Jose Maria Sert are eleven varnish-on-metal paintings. Commissioned in 1929, these vast sepia-toned murals tell the story of their industrious accomplishments from ship building, fishing to blacksmithing and unveil the resilience of Basque people from their freedoms and rights to legends. Sert’s haunting but elegant beauty portrays scenes of industriousness and conscientiousness that still exists among Basque people today.
